Crime Stoppers Joins in Shred-It

On Saturday April 28, 2007, Crime Stoppers USA joined Shred-it and Office Depot in a Community Shred^TM Event in Houston.  The goal of the 2007 USA National Community Shred campaign was to help Americans combat identity theft. Local Crime Stoppers organizations across the country got involved and received donations for their help in informing people about the dangers of identity theft.

Shred-it, a Securit® Company, is the world’s leading on site document destruction company with over 140 branches operating in 16 countries. Shred-it trucks are equipped with custom-built shredders that can efficiently destroy everything from confidential paper documents to CDs.

Katherine Cabaniss of Crime Stoppers, Crime Stoppers Board Member Oscar Martinez of Wells Fargo, and Lori Smith, General Manager of Shred-it Houston, attended the event at the Office Depot located on Westheimer and Hillcroft. The event was open to the public, and community members were invited to bring unwanted personal documents to the Shred-it mobile trucks parked on the Office Depot lot. Shred-it employees shred those documents on site. Having come from the Major Fraud Division of District Attorney’s Office prior to joining Crime Stoppers, Katherine Cabaniss was on hand to educate attendees about the consequences of identity theft and how to properly protect oneself from becoming a victim.

Those who benefited from the Shred-it services were asked to make a donation to Crime Stoppers. The success of the event was a tribute to Crime Stoppers partnership with Shred-it and citizens, and another example of Crime Stoppers work to prevent crime and keep our citizens safe.

Crime Stoppers Part of Randalls Good Neighbor Program

Crime Stoppers of Houston is in partnership with the Randalls Food Market Good Neighbor Program. The program involves raising money for non-profit organizations by linking your Randalls Card to them.  The more people that are linked to an organization, the more donation they receive from Randalls.

Student Movers Helping Crime Stoppers

Student Movers moving company has been working in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Houston to help capture fugitives in the greater Houston area.  They have been resizing Crime Stoppers flyers and attaching them to their moving trucks in hopes that this will be another tool for people to recognize wanted fugitives.
