Since 2005, the Crime Stoppers Safe Apartment Program has worked to solve and prevent serious crimes on apartment properties. Apartment residents may report criminal activity through the anonymous tips hotline, 713-222-TIPS. Because all callers remain anonymous, residents can act confidentially to have felons in their communities arrested. When residents turn in criminal offenders, they directly reduce crime in their complex. Residents act to make their complexes safer, and they receive cash rewards for doing so.
To date, Crime Stoppers’ Safe Apartment Program has assisted law enforcement in solving many apartment related crimes. For example, a Crime Stoppers tip solved the capital murders of apartment manager Eva Pena and her husband Ricardo Nino. On May 15, 2006, the bodies of the couple were discovered inside their ransacked apartment on Bellfort. They had been shot to death after a significant struggle. Their infant daughter remained inside the apartment, and was unharmed. A caller anonymously provided information regarding the identities of the felons, and the two capital murderers were arrested. Justice will be served because Crime Stoppers became involved.
Recent city ordinances require apartment complexes to register with the city and provide remedial measures where crime is a problem. Crime Stoppers provides training to its Safe Apartment Members to teach them how to recognize and report crimes. We encourage you to call our business office at 713-521-4600 to inquire more about the program. Membership in the Crime Stoppers Safe Apartment Program is also available to complexes of all sizes. |
