IDENTITY THEFT CAMPAIGN

Crime Stoppers and Capital One Bank seek to raise public awareness regarding identity theft and its effects on the community at-large. Identity Theft is the fastest growing crime in the nation. There have been more than 30 million victims in the past five years. It has also been the top consumer complaint to the Federal Trade Commission for five years in a row. In 2009, the Federal Trade Commission reported that the state of Texas had the second highest number of complaints of Identity Theft in the United States and the Houston Metropolitan area was responsible for 25% of those complaints. Crime Stoppers will offer up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest or filing of felony charges against any suspect involved in identity theft.  Callers are urged to call 713-222-TIPS, or submit a tip online at www.crime-stoppers.org.  Tips can also be sent by text message; text TIP610 plus your tip to CRIMES (274637).  All tipsters remain anonymous.
