Safe School Program
In 2014 alone, outreach through the Safe School Program reached over 8,597 students, and directly resulted in over 36 solved cases including the removal of illegal drugs and 7 weapons from our schools.
Safe School 101
• For elementary students, presentations are video based and cover topics related to personal safety and antivictimization. Important child safety tips are shared with parents.
• For middle and high school students, the goal of the program is to educate students on crime prevention, current trends in criminal activity, how to identify threats to the school campus, and how to safely and anonymously report criminal activity through the 4 ways to report a tip to Crime Stoppers [via 713-222-TIPS (8477), the Crime Stoppers Mobile App, website www.crime-stoppers.org, or TEXT TIP610 plus your tip to CRIMES (274673)]. Within the presentation, additional targeted messaging is included through digital videos on alcohol abuse, bullying, child abuse in all forms, cyberbullying, domestic violence, drug activity on school campus, human trafficking, and teen dating violence.
Presentations satisfy the state mandate (TEC) §38.004b on anti-victimization.
Presentations are offered to all students, parents, school staff and law enforcement in conjunction
with tools and information provided by the Center of Missing and Exploited Children. The goal of this
presentation is to educate participants on actual and potential on-line threats including highlighting the tricks and tools predators actually use to lure even the savviest child, cyberbullying, and revealing too much information. Real stories taken from Houston cases are used. This presentation satisfies state mandate found in Texas Education Code §21.451.
Reporting Recognized and Disclosed Child Abuse and Neglect
Presentations are offered to school staff and school law enforcement. The goal is to give those with
the duty to report child abuse and neglect up-to-date training and information on signs, symptoms,how to handle disclosures and required duties to respond. This presentation satisfies state mandates TAC §103.1201(h)(2) and TEC §38.0041.
